ND YAG laser
The ND YAG laser, particularly in its picosecond form, stands out for its ability to target pigmented lesions and stimulate collagen production in the skin. By utilizing a crystal called Neodymium-doped Yttrium aluminium garnet (Nd: YAG), this laser emits a wavelength of 1064nm, allowing it to penetrate deep into the skin tissue. Additionally, the picosecond technique modifies the wavelength to 532nm, which is effective for treating superficial pigmented lesions. This laser technology is known for its safety profile and uniform beam pattern, reducing hyperpigmentation while promoting skin tightening and rejuvenation. Essentially, it’s been repurposed from pigment treatment to perform gentle skin toning and revitalization.

Frequently Asked Questions
The duration of laser treatment depends on the size and severity of the lesion. Typically, it takes around 30 minutes.
Pain during Nd YAG laser treatment is significantly reduced with the application of a topical anesthetic. However, minor procedures like treating small age spots and skin rejuvenation often don’t need local anesthesia. Even with the topical anesthetic, patients might feel some mild discomfort, similar to a slight prickling sensation on the skin.
Following the procedure, you might notice some redness at the treatment site, which typically subsides within a few hours. Generally, there is no swelling, allowing most patients to return to their normal activities almost immediately.
Right after the laser treatment, you might observe some lightening of the pigmentation, though it’s also possible for the treated spots to darken for 1-2 weeks before they start to lighten. Skin brightening and rejuvenation effects can often be seen right after the laser session.
Patients must wear protective goggles throughout the treatment session. The procedure involves placing a handpiece on the skin’s surface and activating the laser. Many patients compare the sensation of each pulse to a rubber band snapping against the skin.
While a topical anesthetic can be used, it is typically not needed.
Cooling the skin surface is a standard part of all hair removal treatments. Immediately after the session, a cooling mask or ice pack will be applied to soothe the treated area.
In the first few days after treatment, it is important to avoid scrubbing the area or using abrasive skin cleansers.
Throughout the treatment period, patients should protect the treated area from sun exposure to minimize the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation.
